Two months before

Depending on your situation. Sort, purge, toss and donate.

Start with the rooms you use least and work toward the ones you use most
Sort your things into pack, trash and donate piles
Book donation pick-ups or drop-offs

Utilities, addresses, movers and your buyer visit.

Set dates to cancel or transfer utilities (water, electricity, natural gas) and services (phone, internet, subscriptions)
Go through your mail to see who needs your new addressBanks, government, your accountant, doctors, insurance, the vet, childcare.
Book the movers. Some moves take more than one day
Arrange babysitting, pet sitting, and a hotel in case you need a night before possessionA few nights somewhere else often means a calm, restful sleep before the big day.
Book a buyer visit to measure for the furniture you're keeping or buyingYou usually get two visits. Save one for close to closing.
Note any renovations or changes, and line up contractors to quote on your second visitAsk us for the contractors we recommend.
